Q: How does someone become an electrician, painter or plumber in China

As far as I'm aware there are none in China. Instead an odd job's man is selected at random to bodge things up the best he can. But how do they decide who will be the guy to repair you things in such a way as to make them unsafe or beyond use?

One guy came to my house to set up my satellite dish. You've all seen thousands of them in China and so has this guy, yet I had to explain to him why he had to redo the whole thing and even then he didn't listen until I pointed out the fact that all the neighbors satellite dishes face outwards and not inwards and towards the T.V. Puzzled

You all must have noticed the paint jobs they do in China. In Spain it is called painting with a fat brush when you do it badly. I think here they just toss the bucket against the wall.... You can clean the floor and door, light sockets, etc, etc.

Well the sad truth is that jobs like this aren't seen as the "skilled labor" that they are back home. These jobs are basically the same level as the bang bang men, except the bang bang have to actually put forth effort to carry heavy items, so they trying to understand proper ways to load their bamboo stick for balance.

The idea that human labor being so cheap here, heightens this. The workers are paid as little as possible so they do as little work as possible and the customers know they are paying so cheap, so they don't expect quality work. Even if the plumbing only last a month before it needs addition repairs, well then it can be fixed cheap then; plus that's not an issue that I have to deal with today, so why should I even think about it.

for painters I don't know, but real electricians and plumbers exist in China. Most of the time you don't see them because , yes, the majority of people prefer to hire cheap workers...

You have to understand that you don't have any certification to become a painter, a electrician or a plumer.

They are just guys with experiences in this field and that's all...

Both you and I, if we go 5 times a day just to clean up the toilet we would know how toilets look like from the inside.

I usually do all these stuffs at home....because I met too many of these guys you mentioned in your question. Better to do it by yourself.

I don't think plumbing standards exist in China. For example, hot water and cold water valves are on random sides (right or left) depending on what hotel I stay. sometimes being on opposite sides in the same bathroom (like in the sink and shower) I always have to guess which valve is hot. I have yet to see a proper waste trap, which is why every bathroom smells like urine and shit. Its the Wild Wild West out here.

To be an electrician, painter or plumber you just need to change your tool belt. Each is specific. However if you are going for The Village People Look, it does not matter as only one guy was in the trades.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
