Q: How does your girlfriend react to resentful comments from passers by?
When I and my girlfriend are in public, Chinese boys passing by will sometimes express resentment, or even go so far as to ask her why she is with a foreigner (and they invariably assume I can't understand them).
Have you had the same experience?

As far as I know this has only happened once to my wife. She just turned round to the guy and told him that "when he grows up if he manages to grow a set of balls he may find a decent girlfriend. Until then he should go back to playing with the other little boys". This guy was mid-twenties with three of his friends, the look on his face when they all rolled up laughing at him was priceless. I think my wife probably put him off talking to women for at least another twenty years.

I think it doesn't matter what she says. If a woman even talks back to them, it seems to be enough to scare them.

Just LOOKING at them scares them. Why do you think they are still single.....
My wife's reaction is to just ignore them and, surprisingly enough, so is mine. We get comments like:
"How can someone so tall be with someone so short?!"
"She's too short!"
"You're a traitor to your country."
"Look! Two foreigners!" (she's an ethnic minority, most people don't think she's Chinese)
We also get some confrontational comments such as one where guys look at her with absolute desperation in their eyes and on their faces, "Why did you have to find a foreigner? There are many good men in this city/China!" Apparently I'm not the only one who experiences those questions. We've gotten them several times.

Exactly the same! My girlfriend says "Because he treats me well" and the boy walks away looking twice as dejected as before.

My wife just ignores them, or says "because I love him and he's good to me."
It's my girlfriend and I not the other way around, backwards! Why would there need to be a reaction and why in the world if someone came to talk to you about your relationship would you even bother to stop and chat? It's called ignorance and the best way to deal with such type of behavior is simply by ignoring it.

the funny thing is, their 3 inch mentality is thereason why chinese women are fed up. my gf ignores them, but when i catch wind of it i let them know exactly how small they are.

well, this must be a China thing...when I was with my ex-girlfriend (white) in the supposedly most racially tolerant country you can think of...I was the one that got all those hurtful comments...I can tell you I didn't like them..at all..
^ Same as Ray. She doesn't get any comments in China, but in the past, I did hear racist comments from White and Black boys when I had White and Black girlfriends.
She doesn't react as badly as she does to ANY comment I make...
Never once has she replied, lashed out, or acknowledged them in any way. Of course my Chinese is not quite good enough to understand exactly what they're saying, but the looks they give us and the tone of their voice kinda gives it away. And she's really good with the whole "if I don't like something and just ignore it, it will go away" thing that most Chinese are good at
