Q: How easy is it to get a job without your diploma copy?

The situation I'm in right now is this.  I'm graduating from University in May.  I'm an American citizen with 2 years of teaching experience.  One year in China while I was there for school and one year here in America.  I want to come back to China as quickly as possible and begin working there as a teacher, but I've found the serious jobs, meaning the ones with the means to actually give me a work visa and pay me a decent amount, all need a copy of my diploma when I apply for the job.  Is it even possible to get a Work visa without having a copy of my diploma?

It takes about two months to get your actual diploma from my university upon graduation, so at the earliest it would be July before I got the piece of paper with my name on it =/

Next to none these days.

Small cities with low salaries might be your only chance or Guanxi contacts.. It's a gamble man. Not a risk you should take. But that's just my advice.

Wait, your university doesn't give you your degree at graduation? I don't understand, do they just shake your hand and say congratulations, please walk away? lol. You don't need an official copy. I took a picture of my diploma and emailed it employer. I didn't even need to bring the original with me, even though I did just in case.

Today if we change jobs we'll need the original degree, not the copy, but this is for the big cities. I'm not sure about the small towns.

If you want to be 100% by the book, the 2 years of required experience are counted starting from graduation.

This means you'll need at least to wait 2 more years.

BrendanE:

Also I can't really remember, but I've heard that some PSBs are strict in that they require the experience to be related to the job that you are applying for.

You're right, except it's Labor Bureau jurisdiction instead of PSB.

Thats right, the PSB has nothing to do with this stage when it comes to Degree's and cert's.

Ah yes, even worse then, and the regulations for Z visas get more stringent by the year. Can we even get them in HK or are Z visas only granted in home countries now?

Why not wait until July? Unless you're so desperate to come here that you'll risk taking a bad job as an illegal giving your employer every opportunity to take advantage of you.

Why would you do that?

Go ahead  and try. What will happen is the school will forge a copy of your degree. Then when you try to get another job with your real degree you  will be rejected for the visa because that is not the degree on file. Your school will trap you with them and screw you over at every opportunity.

There is a lot in your story that does not seem to add up. But you should know something about the whole teaching experience bit. You can't use your illegal teaching experience to get a visa. But you are free to try.
