Got an online teaching job offer from EF. How well is the position? Anything I should be concerned about?

OMG! I have just realised we all owe the the OP a big apology. He/She/It/or whatever pronoun they/them/those have chosen this week was actually asking, How is English first? As in, the language being supreme, in the world.

Well, my friend, it has to do with being civilised, educated, hard working, honest and ethical - these things and more are how English is Numbah 1.

EF has had a spotty reputation throughout the world, including China. It depends on who the franchise owner is. Past violations of undocumented workers, late or no pay, withholding paperwork, hiring teachers on travel visas, and management/worker relations issues. Not all EF companies are created equal. When problems are reported in the media, it is usually companies like EF, Wall Street, and Disney that makes the headlines. Proceed with caution.

I think English First should be a bit concerned......

In my expereince, grammar is key.

It's much different than at e-Tities ... anybody can ask questions ...

That's the only requirement ...

If e-Tities would deliver my 14 raincoasts, I could teach all new agents proper English ...

Now, as you all know, I am different-o ...

I got an offer from EF Tangshan in 2009 as my first gig in China, after I submitted my CV ... I didn't last too long (around 3 months) 'cause of my non-native English passport.

Matter was, S. African DOS was so overwhelmed with the classes he had to overtake that he hired anybody at the time.

DOS told me the reasons for my hire at the interview, he he.

Despite, he had to let me go after Chinese branch owner found out my non-native English origin, he wrote an excellent Recommendation letter, which is still pinned at my CV.

Very good chap ... ex-SA-military ...

haha,,, I coulda sworn that pot craze would've died out in the 60's,70's...... I'm more an 80's kid and we did it a few times,,,, some guys more than others from what I remember,,, but even then it seemed like it was just something most had no interest in,,,, I mean a disinterest,,, kinda like when we tell about music groups to Ss these days,, they just kinda smile and say,, yeah,,, sure,, sounds great....

anyway, I'm just suprised people are still talking about/using pot. Seems like all it does is 'dope up' the user,,, like taking some doctor prescibed pain-killer. What in the world is the mystique? well, glad I don't know is all I know....

A:Can a new employer help you? Possibly but it's really hard to say for sure. I used to be involved in hiring new teachers and a couple of times we had people we wanted to hire who were having trouble with their old school - situations similar to yours. Our school was legally able to hire foreign teachers, did everything by the book and was well connected, usually schools that mess people around with visa stuff aren't operating legally so a call from our visa guy to theirs telling them they were breaking the law, we were in the middle of processing the visa stuff with the PSB and the next phone call they got regarding this teacher was likely to be from the PSB asking some hard questions was usually enough to get them to co-operate. No school doing illegal stuff wants the PSB getting too interested in what they're doing. There's a chance a new employer could figure something out if they really want to hire you but these are difficult times, their hands might be tied too. -- Stiggs
