You can do it by bus or train as the cheapest options, but I do prefer trains over buses due to safety considerations.

When I did it there was no fast train and it took 4 hours! But it looks like there is a fast train now so do that. Changzhou is quite nice. The big pagoda is nice too.
You can also look at CNVOL, Chinese train schedule. G train needs 1 hour for the trip, cost 62 RMB for 2nd Class.
