The easiest way is to work for a foreign company here in China. If you work in their international department you may get posted overseas although it's not easy. Applying for an overseas job requires you to have certain skills that western countries do not already have. So, do a skills inventory on yourself and see what you have that foreign countries need. If you apply on job sites it's very difficult because you will be competing with everyone in the world who wants the same job.

Most international jobs hired locals in China because they need them to do the work in China. The chance is so low. I saw some Chinese companies are hiring ppl to work in the overseas office. Is it a good way to apply with? Will they pay a much lower salary than those western locals can get?

Chinese companies to work overseas have to register a local branch, thus the employees of such branch "should" benefit of wages as per the host country labor law. But hey, here we're talking about Chinese companies......

Check out the 457 visa requirements on the Australian Gov't website.  These are positions that need to be filled, but can't.   You'll need to have specific skills, or knowledge.

Weren't you the Victoria that wanted to screw over your current employer recently and start her own trading company??

There is an abundance of well educated Australians without jobs and an equal abundance of Australian educated Chinese looking for work who are already legally in the country. As you have nothing special to offer why would you think that somewhere like Australia would be interested in you?

Victoria, your best and probably only chance is Africa (working for a Chinese company).

1. Have a qualification in demand. It can be a Master or a PhD in science/engineering.
2. Have a skill in demand. Very good Chinese welders have been invited to work in Australia and they are now Australians http://www.chinasmack.com/2013/stories/chinese-welders-live-the-good-lif...

If Australia is your thing, you can get a good idea of what kind of skills are in demand
http://www.immi.gov.au/Work/Pages/skilled-occupations-lists/skilled-occupations-lists.aspx

The idea is : why someone would employ somebody from the other side of the planet, if there is already a pool of locals with the same skillset, but immediately available without visa hassles to go through ? The idea of immigration is to bring lawful tax payers, not people who are likely to be jobless Wink

DrMonkey:

Ha, to apply for a visa, look what are the mandatory requirements. Usually, you need a minimum score at the IELTS (usually, at least 6). IF you didn't pass that test with the minimal mark, consider training for it.

She could qualify as a toilet auntie at Oodnadatta Pub. Apparently, they can't find anyone qualified to take the position. It's a win/win. See the outback and meet lots of manly men while you gain a valuable skillset and on the job experience.

You have to compete with the locals in that country, as well the company has to arrange your visa. They don't even know you, it's easier for English native speakers get a job in china, the demand of English teachers is high in china

Sorry, KTV xiaojie is not much in demand in the west.

Try Burger Kings world-wide. They might accept talents and skills such as yours.

Well, Victoria...

It doesn't just take connections like in China, you have to be very skilled in something that is lacking in the country you want to work in. I suggest going to job fairs  as some international companies do hold them in China.

Otherwise, I would stick with starting your own company if you can pitch a good business idea to the bank or investors and have some proven success. Why would you want to work for someone else anyway?

I'm pleased to say that Autralia is a more realistic possibility for me than for Vicky!

Perhaps one day, I'll be emigrated and set up in Oz-land. Their dislike of Pommies is more of a fun tradition than real nowadays. Christmas in summer will be weird, but at least there are western holidays.

If I ever get there, I'll be sure to resurrect this topic, and gloat a little. Not too much, as that's very unbecoming. Just a little. Wink

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
