Q: How good are the English-taught postgraduate courses here?

I know it varies from uni to uni, but overall would it be a mistake to consider doing a masters here given China's poor education system, or is the uni system actually okay?

Unis here are easy way out. Got a degree, basically did nothing. Some unis are on the list of good ones but after talking to people already in there its your money they want. Judge for yourself the quality from these actual examples. 1.  I was in a class the( 3rd year 2nd sem), a girl asks an aerodynamics teacher," If oxygen and hydrogen are gases why is water liquid, she was dead serious".  2. (4th year 1st sem) Loc. Computer Aided Geometrical Design Class, out of 26 students only 3 knew what vector addition was. (All students have passed their 3 university level Calculus and  physics). The class graduated in Jan 2012, 100% pass.

I've given a more detailed answer in another question, so I'll try to be brief.  In a land known for the ability to shake the right hand and grease the right palm and you will pass no matter what, degrees from China don't hold a lot of weight outside of China.  They can be a resume buffer that can look good when comparing to someone with a post graduate degree, but that's about it.

So if you're asking because you just want to try and expand your knowledge, go for it.  But for the job markets (outside of China), think of it on level with being the Student Body President during your undergrad studies. The best you can hope for is that it sticks out enough that I might catch the eye of someone in HR that is skimming a stack of resumes enough to get them to actually read the rest of yours.

If you want an accredited masters degree, Peking Uni. Tshinghua, Wuhan Univ. and the collabritive schools in Shanghai, I don't know which one's in Shanghai, I just know they opened one with American UPENN and one with Cambridge England
