Q: How has living here changed you?
I find I drink and smoke more now....have become very cynical and I trust no one now.
How have you changed?
I quit smoking 15 years ago and i generally keep away from smokers,,can't here,, yes i'm smoking now.
I've become a cereal killer. No one will notice. These things go mostly unreported. I can't stop. Besides the cereal here deserves to die.
My changes have been mostly good!
I lost about 9 kg, quit smoking.
I have developed a sense of humor.
My GERD vanished in a matter of weeks.
I have more free time and able to pursue hobbies like language and some sports.
Most of my changes have been positive over here.
I agree with the cynical part. Now I think about a person's motive whenever they do something or want something of me, even if it is my best friend. I never would have done that before, and I feel bad about it. Surprisingly it hasn't changed my ability to trust anyone, I guess I was always careful about that.
I did gain a little weight, but I lost it now by not eating snacks. However, I don't think I can truly lose more weight than I began with because of the type of food I eat here, especially considering the salt content. It always leaves me feeling bloated. People say American food is so unhealthy, but my parents cook in a very healthy way (for the most part) and I miss that. Steamed vegetables, whole wheat pasta, olive oil...man I miss that.
I have also become more confident. I'm not as shy as I used to be. After all, I can't be shy when teaching my students, right? I am still shy when meeting new people, but stage fright doesn't bother me as much anymore. And of course, I am less afraid of spiders because I have already encountered bigger ones in my home than I did back in America.

I saw a gun in a store that shoots sticks with suction cup tips, maybe buy a few so you are armed.
My English seems is a bit chinglish now... Didn't develop at all... Stopped using difficult words... Always breakdown into simpler words.. Or else nobody would understand..but ithas become a habit...
i have become more mean, stingy to care much for money, have built a resistance to do good deed. i have become much rude in talking...... like........ bluntly on the face whatever i feel have in heart and mind together. Gosh it does hurts people , but living here in china or other foreigner countries does change the people. my English... ! i have broken every possible legs, arms, hands, fingers of the grammar to all the limits, Sorry to English. i have given my religious practices to some extent as i was in my country. Gosh i miss my home and country.
I was fatter too. Losing it now but it's a lot of work.
Definitely more cynical of people's motives, like Jnusb said, I would never think of that back home. It's saddening for me to admit that.
Yesterday, a student's dad gave me a dozen bottles of red wine. I was told today that he gave it to me because he will be asking me for a favor. I hate to believe it's true but I think it probably is. Terrible way to live. I don't need to be bribed to do a good deed but they think it's the only way. They think they must get you in a position to "owe" them something. Sad
I've lost a a fifth of my body weight (and I wasn't overweight before), haven't had a solid crap for six months and have tantrums over the smallest things. I'm grumpier, less patient and a pain to live with. Otherwise, I'm chill. Also, I'm really struggling to make up my mind as to whether or not there is any genuine culture in this country. Never used to be that cynical either.
i started hearing a voice about 5 months ago. now it's up 3 voices. 2 of them are married, i think 1 is the child. they stopped talking to me about 4 weeks ago. but they argue with each other constantly. sometimes i cant even understand what they are saying. they speak russian. i constantly yell at them to keep it down. i started wearing a blue tooth earpiece last week to cover for my yelling episodes. yesterday a student came up to and said he was worried about me. he told me my bluetooth earpiece was actually a paperclip. i had to do it i buried him in the garden. the roses are starting to bloom bigger and brighter than before.
also i really have lost my love for prostitutes. waste of money here.
TedDBayer:
i hear tin foil hats help, altho I've never used one. my voices are women telling me what to do, so I can ignore them.
crimochina:
that's rubbish, everyone know tin foil is used to keep the govt from implanting thoughts into your mind, or reading your thoughts
GuilinRaf:
no!
that is what the aliens want you to t hink!
Foil hats are to block the mental commands of the Greys. Area 51? The aliens WANTED their ship to be "captured"....
It made me realize that I don't want to stay on one side of the world so I will be traveling back and forth for my pleasure.
My weight has stayed the same but my appetitie is a lot better out here since the food is better for the most part. ![]()
got smoke here and many of my frnds got smoking shit ,SMOKING SHIT here
