Q: How has your health/body changed since you came to China?

In terms of body size...

I hear that most foreigners that come to China actually lose quite a bit of weight. I think this is because Chinese food is generally lighter but also because foreigners are running around quite a bit more exploring.

In my case, I have actually gained weight but it is because I was trying to put on muscle in the gym.

In terms of health...

Many foreigners have trouble with the food and get sick pretty often due to the pollution or whatever. My stamina has gone down since coming to China (probably due to the pollution on my lungs) but if I eat well, exercise and take hiking trips to areas with little to no pollution then I usually keep pretty well.

So how have you changed? For better or worse?

No problems after I replaced my blood with beer, filter the air I breathe with cigarettes and only eat the souls of my students.

I try to exercise to deal with stress so that keeps my weight down. I usually run about 20 klics a week if the air is not too dirty, so I guess my health is better since I have been here.

I lost about 21 Kg, went from 84 Kg to 63.  As far as general health goes, I am pretty certain that I am going to fall over dead one of these days.  At least, that's what it feels like.

I am training for a marathon...my size fluctuates depending on whether I am running or not. I find Chinese food far more oily than anything I ate at home, and vastly less nutritious. Perhaps the last part is my fault--I go out of my way to avoid the more colorful fruits and veggies, lest some 'creative' idiot poison the to make his wares look better. I drink way more than I did in the States, but I take two week stints every so often to control that.

I think I have been sick for the past month--changing weather, crap nutrition, and high stress.

I lived off of oily and heavy Mexican food in the states. I eat mostly green veggies, eggs, and tofu in China. Ya I lost some weight.

I work now 6 days a week and don't spend that much time outside like I did before coming here. Also I became skinnier and had a lot more food poisoning.
