Q: How have you got health insurance when working?

Does anyone who is working here have health insurance?

Before I got a job I was on travel insurance but I think they won't cover me for certain things now that I have a working visa. Does anyone know if this is the case or has had experience dealing with this?

My travel insurance runs out in March. When that happens what should I do? Buy health insurance? or get more travel insurance? I don't think my company will pay for it, and I've heard it can be stupidly expensive. A lot of my friends just don't bother and I suppose hope that nothing bad happens. I'm pretty accident prone, don't think this is the right answer for me.

Suggestions on good/affordable insurance companies would be a big help too. I'm a British citizens (if that makes a difference)

If you buy an insurance from a local company your nationality wont matter.

If you just need basic accident insurance it can be done by the Chinese insurers for a couple of hundreds per year. Then you will have coverage if you break a leg or something like that. The expensive one is "serious disease" If you get cancer you'd probably want to go home so you don't need it. If you have a heart attack you're screwed, but chances of anyone having enough compassion to pick you up and call an ambulance is just as low as chances the ambulance is ever going to be able to get through the herds of selfish motorists to save you in time.

Are you sure you are covered by your travel insurance at all. Doesn't it have a maximum duration of each trip ?

Local insurers: Ping An, China Taiping, China Life etc.

Im insured with Nomads and they are pretty great. They are aimed at people dong year long round the world trip type things. Not too expensive either....but i think they won't cover me with a work visa, though it kicks in again if I go travelling, or jet off to another country.

I will check out those insurers. Thanks.

Scandinavian:

some schools/companies will have an agreement with an insurance company that can save you a little bit and give some kickbacks to the guy from the school/company who entered the agreement with the insurgence company.
