You can study the language a couple of hours everyday and use what you learned as much as possible.

Chinesepod is a good source (and sometimes free depending on where you download the source).  Of course most major universites will have Chinese classes for foreigners.  But on of the best ways is to go out and use it.  Find you a cute little lady to help encourage you to practice.

Mandarin Garden is the earliest established international Chinese teaching center and mandarin teacher training organization in Shanghai. We have 7 centers in China.(Shanghai 3 centers, Wuyi, Changchun,Wuhan,Shenzhen)and 3 centers in the world. (London,Seoul,Sydney) All of which have a very Chinese-feeling environment to allow you to better assimilate into the sea of Chinese culture.
Mandarin Garden is also an officially recognized research center for Chinese teachers, and an IPA certified teacher training organization. We have already sent over 2000 Chinese teachers to other Chinese language schools all over the world. As only the most outstanding teachers stay at Mandarin Garden, we are able to provide our students with the most professional service.

A: Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever
A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
