Q: How long does an F visa (M entry) last for?

Hi I'm an exchange student currently studying in China. I have an F visa (Multiple entry, must enter before July 18th, each duration being 180 days), entered the country Feb 15th and want to stay until the end of this August.

Since the 180 duration would end on August 15th (which is half a month before I want to leave), what would I have to do to stay for those extra 15 days?

Can I leave China briefly before July and renew the 180 days duration? Or do I have to apply to renew my visa?

Thanks!

Since you do not explain what are you studying  (post graduate courses, college degree, what ?), I will start with the basic.

What is an "F" business visa ?. Business Visa (F Visa) is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months.

And since some months are 30 days, some are 31 days, and one is 28 days, we better say 180 days instead of 6 months.  So, if you entered the country on February 15, 2012, you must leave on or before August 13, 2012.  If you not do so, you will have overstayed your visa, and will be fined, will have difficulties getting another visa, etc.

The multiple entries apply only within the 180 days the visa is valid, it is not that you get 180 days stay each time you enter.

You will have two choices mainly, one will be to go to PSB and see if they will grant you a visa extension of 30 days.  The other will be to go to Hong Kong and get a new visa there.  There are other options, but since I do not patronize them, I will not mention them at all.

generally single and double entry F visa is issued for 30 days..but once you are in China you can extend it with supportive documents and valid reason..Again there are multi entry F visa for 6 Months and 12 months..
