The ubiquitous incompetence of the school may take several weeks/months to get their ducks in a row.

The government side of the process is relatively quick providing the school has done their part correctly.

Lesson 1 in China: chillax bro, shit will be done when it is done. And it will take longer than you expected and there is a strong probability that the person processing it will have different requirements than those stated on the outdated website. There is a strong probability that you may need to get other documents, which will later prove to be superfluous to the process. Here be your first lesson in how to Chinar.

That depends on where you apply, to some extent, and whether you have all of your documents in order. If you have all the correct paperwork, the visa application process only takes a few days.

The answer to that depends on soooo many different factors, but Scahtz and TPP both pretty much said it like it is above.

Generally though, if the school is a decent one, they're motivated and working to get you there asap and there are no hassles with your paperwork it doesn't take too long.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
