Q: How long does it take to get a new passport if you lose it in China?

Help! My friend just lost his passport in Guangzhou (on his way to HK to get a new visa). How long does it take to get a new one, and what should he do about the visa situation?

IF you are a foreigner, you need to go too your consulate. No other choice! How long it will take, this depends but they will give you a paper which you can use meanwhile. ALL DEPENDS!

If you go to your consulate, prove your nationality, then give them a good sob story, it shouldn't take too long. The real pain will be getting your Chinese visa back because I'm pretty sure you have to reapply for it where you got it from.

To get a new passport for Americans takes about 2 weeks officially.  Mine took about 1 week to get.  Go to the consulate, they are very understanding and very efficient.

If your not American, then unfortunately, I don't know the rules.
