Q: How long does it take for your residence permit to be cancelled?

If you leave/lose your job, and therefore lose your residence permit and work permit, how long does that process take?

ED: Thanks for the below answers. To clarify, I would be looking at leaving rather than losing my job, and have no further interest in working in China.

It is just the PSB processing something, so it depends on the town, visa agency, connections... I got quoted about 5 working days in Beijing if I remember right.

Are you going to stay or going to leave? You can always drop the work permit at your employer and leave the country, possible trouble only arises if you need another visa.

If you want to stay, try to hold on the residence permit as long as possible. Once it has been changed to L, you are in the usual mess of changing a L-Visa to Z or F. This can be impossible or expensive without going back to your home country first.  It is much easier to fix a gap in employment. You could go on unpaid leave.

If you loose your job (or quit it), you are correct that your work and residence permits will be canceled.  How long will take fir that to happen ?  I would say rather fast, in days.  If that happens to you (or you thinking about it), I suggest a visit to your local PSB to find out what they are willing to do while you seek new employment.  Maybe an "L" visa, BUT NORMALLY FOR EXCHANGES AND OR NEW VISAS THEY WILL TELL YOU TO GO ABROAD.

One thing I do know for sure, they will give you at least a 10 day exit permit to leave the country.

It would be nicer here if people do not try to answer questions they do not know the answer.   Work permit and Visa(Residence Permit) are two different things.

Work permit comes from the labour bureau and belongs to your current job. You quit, you fired-> it is gone automatically.

Residence permit is the sticker in your passport and comes from the PSB. If you do not have your job anymore, you would have to tell them. You should get a 30 days L-Visa then. That is what I call "cancelling a residence permit".

If you have another job ready, you just go into a process of changing your work permit instead. The residence permit stays in your passport, no need to leave the contry or anything.

You do not get blacklisted anyway. If you want another job in China, you need a "Release letter" from your fomer employer. That may be difficult to obtain, depending on the circumstances of your leaving.
