Q: how long before Fire Cupping goes the way of Feet Binding ?
out and about today I seen a little girl I know, about 12 years of age, and her neck and back were covered with those huge welts that come from Fire Cupping. I asked her about it, she said her mom did it, I asked if it hurt, she said yes.
first thought through my mind was child abuse.
So, a quick survey of our fine community here on eChinacities:
Will people a hundred years from now look back on fire cupping the same way we regard feet binding now?
Feet binding was practised for reasons of aesthetics. Fire cupping is a method used to draw out impurities in the skin. Totally different thing. Can't speak for the benefits of fire cupping, though i've had it done. Wouldn't call it painful though. What concerns me more is that the Chinese are VERY much against using anaesthetics at the dentist. They opt for the pain because they believe injecting anaesthetics into your jaw is bad for your health. Bugger that I say, drug me up, and the same goes for my son when he goes to the dentist. But fire cupping? It's lightweight pain. I was laughing when I did it.

yeah, I understand the distinction you are pointing out. well, she said it hurt and those nasty looking welts looked painful. Anyway, I say if u are an adult, have at it. But seemed wrong to do that to a child.
First time I visited dentist in PRC was 2006. He just began drilling, no local anasthetic, at first I was like, ok, I can take this,,, then he hit a nerve. I finally understand the meaning of the word Torture! wow!

Who knows, that kid might have a condition which calls for that treatment. It's like using a heated bottle to draw out a splinter, those fire cups likely do much to draw out unwanted impurities. It's a practice that's continued for a mighty long time, if it had no positive effects it would probably have died out.
I've been to the dentist here plenty of times. Not been impressed.

I also had fire cupping, but not here - back home. It is method used not only in China.
They are two types of fire cupping - one that is generally unharmfull (just underpresure, that sucks some skin inside) and not painfull (for me). I have those fire cupping many times since I was a small child, last time about 2 years ago. And yes, after that I felt much better.
The second one is done with getting some small cuts on the skin, and let some amount of blood to be sucked inside cup. I never tried it, and I have no intent to do that. I also never seen it, just heard of.

Yeh, that last one is 'bleeding', they used to do that way back in the day in England. That's some backward shit, people used to die from it all the time.

Another reason for feet binding was to keep women from running away from their husbands. It is hard to head down the road when you can't walk more than a few minutes due to the pain of severely deformed feet.

Are you actually comparing fire cupping to feet binding?
The two methods are totally different and they have different causes of use and different pain levels.........they also have different consequesnces to the body.......one is severelly and unbearable pain and the other just causes a bit of unpleasant markings on the skin.........no chance of comparing both methods.....maybe you just asked this question in a moment of sympathy with no knowledge of the difference between both just because you saw the markings on the little girl and she said it hurt.....at the age of that girl almost everything hurts..
