Q: how long is maternity leave in China?
Just curious, Anyone know?
Officially it is 98 days, but I would be sure that a lot of pregnant women gets laid off as soon as they start showing a bump, and also I would be surprised if women working in factories actually always get that benefit. Perhaps government employees would get it without any hassle.

You obviously don't know Chinese Law too well.it's illegal to lay off or fire an employee under contract in China. But this does not apply to foreigners unless it's in your contract. Been there done that got the t-shirt

Knowing the law and following the law is not the same in this country.
In Guangdong, a man gets 10 days for the first child.
Women get ninety days plus an extra thirty if they have the book that says they pledge only to have one child. Also, depending on the grade of child birth wounds, they can get an extra ten to twenty days for a natural birth. This depends on a doctor's note. A "C" section gets an extra thirty days.
For a second baby, if the couple are not allowed one, they get nothing.
Companies can ask applicants for jobs to do a pregnancy test before they are offered a job.
When a woman get's a baby "book" they have to do regular pregnancy tests. That is, if they are not pregnant before they get the book of course 
.
