thank you guys. My question actually is focusing on the processing time of obtaining a new work permit

ironman510:

First, Work Permit and Resident Permit are now two very different things, your work permit will take any where from 3 weeks to 3 months depending on when your current visa ends, next the PSB should finish your Resident Permit in 7 to 14 working days. Thats why I asked when your current visa ends, but you didnt answer my question so I cant help you beyond this point.

When does your current visa end? If it's gonna end soon you can get it pushed to the front of the line and 2 to 3 weeks at best or 2 months if your current working permit still has time.

A few more details would let us help you better.

Can't talk about getting a new one but it took me over a month to get my ABC card then 4 days to renew my visa. Used to take something like 2 days to renew your FEC before.

They ask for a ton more papers than they used to both from the employer and the employee. It's a new system so kind of a complete clusterfuck at the moment because even the people in charge have no idea what they need from you. Tell you they only need X and Y, call you 2 days later to say they also need Z, and then call you again 3 days later to say that finally they need A and B but didn't need Y in the end. So the whole process should be smoother next year as they get used to it.

Also I'm kind of a special case since I have my own company and sponsor my own visa, but I'm almost sure that they ask for the same documents from your employer.

That's because they upload our documents online now and wait for approval than go get the WP Card.

Yes, actually it's your employer's responsibility to upload documents online for them to check, which in this case is more practical than the old fashioned way of going to the labor bureau in person to deliver every documents and again if you or they forgot some.

Now there is a portal online where you enter your business license number and the password they gave you, there you can upload all sort of image files from scans. You only need to go to the labor department once everything is right to drop/pick up your ABC card now.

Much more practical, yet so slow, most likely due to the newness of the whole thing, it will probably get faster with time.
