I was just thinking that the one thing the vast majority of us have in common is that we are all travellers. Most of us have prioritized experiences and adventure over other possessions.
So where have your adventures taken you??
Favorite place?? Least fave??
Ive been to Cuba, Jamaica, Cali, Florida, Vegas, Colombia, Equador, Bolivia, Peru, Thailand, Phillipines, Malaysia, France , Holland, Belgium, Ethiopia, Eritrea... Im getting old thats it off the top of my head.
Best: Cuba Worst: Jamaica
I have been to
9 years 13 weeks ago in Transport & Travel - China
Two - China and Foreignerland.
Eorthisio:
It was so expected yet I just burst out laughing. My girlfriend who is Chinese got your joke too.

I have been all over the continental US and Canada, plus Barbados, Antigua, and Jamaica.
Best: Jamaica (in your face, Mike!) Worst: Probably the village in which I am residing now (courtesy of my M-I-L and wife's uncle).
mike695ca:
Really? What did you like about Jamaica? I felt it was really run down but not in a nice, interesting way. A little unsafe, the food was bad, and i felt like the locals really didnt like me being there. It ruined Bob Marley for me forever. Ill never forgive Jamaica for that.
Sinobear:
Small hotel, few guests, awesome service, private beach. Invited to the local church, local markets, fishing, snorkeling, spear-fishing (I think I was the bait for the barracuda) by the local people. Got to see the moon take up half the horizon on one visit, a manta ray giving birth on another. Made friends with an island-known entertainer and a local guy who showed me the flora in the area.
I would give your left arm to go back there again for some R&R and P&Q (I prefer nature and solitude to hustle and bustle) .
Not so many. UK, France, Germany, Belgium and China. But i'm going to Japan soon enough, should be an interesting contrast with Henan, eh?
Best one... either France (i lived in Paris) or Germany (but i only visited two cities, Frankfurt and Marburg, not sure what the rest of it is like). Worst... it's gotta be Zhongguo. Brussels is crap too.
mike695ca:
Yeah i shouldnt even be allowed to put Belgium on my List. We drove from Holland looked around and we were all like " Wanna just head to France??" We forced ourselves to stay for a while and i cant remember anything i didnt like about it, but i dont remember absolutely anything about it at all.
RandallFlagg:
I didn't see outside Brussels so i can't comment on Belgium in general. But Brussels... what a miserable, dirty hole of a city. By European standards, anyway.
DrMonkey:
Ayyyaa, I heard good things of Brussel, that it had amazing architecture and artistic scene. I like the culture of the French-speaking Belgium people, they are like French people minus the arrogance and they don't take themselves too seriously. What did no click ?
Hotwater:
I'm a bit like Mike with Belgium....drove through it once in my way from Holland to France...if I'd blinked I'd have missed it!
RandallFlagg:
The old city centre has some pretty buildings and the European Parliament is impressive (it would be... they're the ones with the money) but i personally found the areas outside the centre to be more than a little like Zhengzhou here in China. Rude people, crazy traffic, dirty, etc.

- Canada, U.S.A, China, the Philippines, Thailand, North Korea (not too far haha), Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong (I don't consider China)
My favorite was Coron, Phillippines and Hong Kong | The worst is probably some city in China (Taiyuan or Zhengzhou)

royceH:
Johnny Cash must have covered it. I'm pretty sure he never went to Wollongong.
He did go to Brisbane though..I saw him. Strong voice, straight back.
MissA:
Nothing wrong with the Gong, but why did you have to put that bloody song in my head?!
United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand
Best: Turkey or Thailand
Worst: I don't have one so far. I might find one on my future travels.

29 and counting... Most of them more than once, and my favourite ones many times
Gees....what have I been doing with my life....
New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, USA, Japan, Sth Korea, Vietnam. China and Australia.
NZ is wonderful. China is so disappointing. Think I'll go to HK in the next couple of weeks.
Oh, we're going to Kashgar next month and there's more than the odd person who thinks that's East Turkistan.
mike695ca:
If you end up going to HK and pass by let me know! Pints on me!
royceH:
I want to go. See how things pan out.
If I do then yes, we'll do pinting. But you're Canadian, right? Different to American, right?
Then you should know that I could never allow you to do the beer buying. We go shout for shout, like all the other normal countries I know of. This excludes the US...the yanks have no concept of 'the shout'. Are Canadians the same?
mike695ca:
Haha Im chinese now. And if someone comes to visit me, i treat. We can argue about that later haha.
France
Canada
USA
Mexico
Jamaica
Puerto Rico
virgin islands
Korea
Taiwan
Hong Kong
Thailand
Phillipines
China
and, as above, I loved Jamaica!!
China is by far the "oddest" and least inviting.... but I like it here.
I have been to Thailand,Cambodia,Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia,Philippines,Laos,France,Germany,Holland( Amsterdam only)
Best: Thailand, France.
Worst: dont have yet...
Most European countries (haven't been to Poland, but intend to go next summer) - an advantage of being European.
Norway, Sweden and Finland
Faroe Islands - the 'white nights' one summer, hiking around the different islands
Canada
China
South Korea
Favourite - hard to choose, but either Slovenia or Norway are slightly ahead
least favourite -
France
Greece
Spain
Australia
Cyprus
Hong Kong
China
Damn I thought it was more. seriously need to travel.
My favourite was OZ, different enough to the uk to be interesting but never feels totally like a foreign country. I liked HK a lot but i thought it was dirty. greece is the most beautiful. my most desired place to travel to is canada. i do love parts of china also i ve got a strong desire t return hence my usage of this website
Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Rep., Slovakia, Hungary, Thailand, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Myanmar.
Best: Europe is a great place.
Worst: Bangladesh is pretty f****d up, the other country were I spent the last 10 years of my life too, for different reasons.
I'm damn interested in Australia and New Zealand. This last might represent my ideal lifestyle for the little info I gathered and for the picture of it I built in my mind......
I have not been many places, but my best: Puerto Rico. Spent 6 months there and I cried when I had to leave.
My worst: Milton Keynes, UK. Ok, it's not a country, it's a town. I worked there for 2 years. Horrid place. An urban planning project that was flawed from the start.
London was cool. I lived there for about 5 years. Without a doubt, the most inclusive and diverse place on the face of this planet.
New York. I spent a few months there trying to be an illegal alien. But I ran out of money. Every Irish barman I talked to had won the visa lottery.
France: Worked a few weeks in a French factory setting up a job. Without a doubt, the sexiest accent on earth. Even a dude with a French accent puts me on the verge of becoming gay. Fantastic country, great trains, but the Paris metro is way too confusing.
China? Hey China is cool. The taxman says "thank you" on the bottom of your tax statement. How cool is that
RandallFlagg:
Milton Keynes - wasn't that one of those new towns created in the "Socialist" 60s/70s? Lots of Warsaw Pact-style grey concrete box buildings, that kind of thing?
ScotsAlan:
Nope Randal. You are thinking of Harlow ( I also worked there), or Cumbernauld in Scotland. Concrete shitholes.
Milton Keynes is just strange. It's Ironic that it borders a town called Stoney Stratford. Where a pub called "the cock" is still going, alongside "the bull". That's where "cock and bull" originated.
Mike, isn't listing Cali & Florida cheating? They're only states?
In response to Davo I've also got some song lyrics, if anyone can guess the next line to the song I'll pay for their transport to Guangzhou & treat them to a night out! (Craft beer & pizza!)
"Well I've been to Brighton and I've been to Hastings and I've been to Eastbourne too..."
<insert next line here>
Me, I've been, from memory, to..,,
England, Northern Ireland , Scotland & Wales (I'm British!)
Holland
France
Germany (West)
Spain
Italy
Belgium
Greece
Switzerland
Poland
Austria
Monaco
Andorra
Republic of I reland
Estoni
Morrocco
Dubai
Abu Dhabi
Sri Lanka
USA
Malaysia
Indonesia
Vietnam
New Zealand
Thailand
Singapore
Macau
Hong Kong
and home is now China!
Worst....USA for the absolute arseholes they employ at immigration!
Best.....that's bloody difficult but I absolutely loved traveling & fruit picking around France for the summer back in 1992....would have settled there, in the Southwest, but my then wife was homesick for Manchester of all places!
mike695ca:
Ill make you a deal my friend. Your totally right its cheating so ill remove the states and just put USA if you remove half of your countries as western europe can fit in my province haha. You guys have a huge advantage!! Did you have to buy a plane ticket for your top half of the list??? Or just walk there?
Hotwater:
Walk? nope. I drove around most of them in a beat up old ambulance that I'd converted into a camper!
ScotsAlan:
Quote "
Me, I've been, from memory, to..,,
England, Northern Ireland , Scotland & Wales (I'm British!)"
If you are British, all of the above count as one. A recent vote confirmed that.
royceH:
Well I've been to Greece, the Isle of Nice, I've sipped champagne on a yacht......"
I don't want any damn Pizza Hut pizza, I want a real one. Thin base, pepperoni, olives and plenty of anchovies.
Craft beer and myself are soulmates. Yippeee!!
BHGAL:
So what, so what.
And I've been here, I've been there,
I've been every fucking where.
So what, so what.
Hotwater:
Well BHGAL, you get the prize for the lyrics but Google got the band wrong! The original was by an old British punk band called The Anti-Nowhere League! I bet the Metallica cover wasn't as explicit as the original! See if you can find the live version (with obscene lyric "bleeps" in the wrong places!)
ill be be happy to pay for your bus ride from Zhanjiang to GZ mate & a night sampling the finest craft beers the city has to offer is on me. I'm sure Scots would also join us.
Hotwater:
@ Scots, you've got a point but they are still countries in a dis-United Kingdom! Can I add the Isle of Man to the list instead?
BHGAL:
not much doubt I will be in Guangzhou someday....real doubt that it will be in the near future... going nowhere for a month or two ( let the Chinese crowd the busses and trains)
the money/prize I just won from your simple offer will be used up. +/-60RMB bus ride. and a pizza at some place like Zebra Star ( i have no idea-m just know they play rugby) and the vast varieties of beer available and just what is appropriate remains to be seen.... Thank You very much for the quiz.
Hotwater:
Zebra Star bar is okay but the only draft beers they have are generic (& overpriced!) lagers. I'll take you on a tour of the GZ craft beer bars where you'll have a choice of locally brewed Stouts, Porters, IPA's & homemade pizza!
Look forward to catching up with you sometime after spring festival to supply your prize!
royceH:
What are you blokes gabbing on about??? Didn't I win this damn competition? My lyrics are going around and around. They've gotta be right.......gees..
Hotwater:
Well Royce, your lyrics sort of fit but TBH I'd never heard of Charlene until I just googled them. Great try mate but wrong song.
As a consolation prize for effort I'll treat you to a night out of beer & pizza but you need to get to GZ yourself! Maybe stopover here on your way to HK? Me & Scots would make you very welcome.
The thing about touring North America, as opposed to Europe is to Europe is there are only 2 borders to cross... 3 countries... does Hawaii or Alaska count?
British Columbia --- started here, my home
Alaska
Yukon
North West Territories
Alberta
Saskatchewan
Manitoba
Ontario - Niagara Falls - wedding bliss, yah right!!__________________

Very few... :( but includes Singapore and Brunei (and England). Currently living it up in NZ.
I might get around to travelling sometime....
However, it does need to be pointed out that like a couple of other places around the world, my home country takes DAYS of driving to get from one end to the other...
In addition to seeing a bit of my home country:
NZ
Fiji
Indonesia
Singapore
Malaysia
Thailand
Laos
Cambodia
Vietnam
China
England
Scotland (yes, I know it's one country but MrA shouts at me if I don't refer to them seperately)
The Netherlands
Germany
Austria (flying visit, longer next time)
Italy
Not a bad start but it's only a tiny part of the world overall.
Urumqi was easily the worst, but even with all the problems we had in China I loved the XJ countryside on the rare occasions we got to go out and see it. As for a favourite...it's just so difficult to choose. My in-laws live in the Scottish Highlands and on the rare occasions you get good weather that's God's own country...but the tropical islands of SE Asia are magnificent too.
