Q: How many people in KFC actually order food?

I'm currently hanging out at KFC to kill time between appointments. As I drink my coffee and eat my two piece chicken wings I look around and see hardly anyone consuming KFC products. The guy next to me has a suitcase and seems to be living here. I see many 20 somethings playing on their phones. Maybe they finished their meal but I doubt most of these people ordered anything. How do they make money in a prime location when non paying people take up most of the seats? Funny thing is when I walked in I was snacking on smelly tofu and was asked to leave because of the smell. Fair enough, I finished it outside and came back. But how about the nong sitting next to me with a suitcase screaming into his phone? He smells like shit too and probably didn't order anything. I don't care, just find it amusing. TIC.

Yeah, it sucks. I once saw a guy doing his laundry in the sink at McDonald's.  He then hung his clothes all over the chairs to dry.  No one batted an eye.

Did you miss your appointment while you were waiting for your order?

dongbeiren:

Haha no I'm here now but the person working there was awfully surprised that I was able to order without a picture menu in front of me. In spite of her confusion I got what I ordered.

Same with McD's, Starbucks, or any place else.
Kind of like this website...full of trolls and Spam (although ScotsAlan and BHGAL think that's A-OK).
How are they supposed to make money when they allow spammers to advertise for free? How can they attract 'real' people to the site with so many trolls?
Bad business practices? Lack of sound business knowledge? A sewer blocked with crap is a sewer blocked with crap, not a free-flowing system that it's meant to be.
Numbers seem to be more important than actual revenue.

And, for the love of Hannibal, coffee and chicken wings?

dongbeiren:

Haha I only wanted coffee but they had an afternoon promotion of 3 kuai for two wings with a medium or large coffee. How could I pass that up?

Chinese seem to be hell bent on bringing KFC, Starbucks and the rest down to their level. I never see droves of non paying low lifes hanging out in Chinese coffee shops or chain restaurants.

And Chinese stank is acceptable in China. Seriously, the staff will confront a foreigner because they know foreigners are less likely to be violent. Staff will not confront Chinese out of fear of retribution.

expatlife26:

Yeah I think you're right. Theres always a chance, however small, that a local can fuck your day up. Just because somebody is acting like a bum doesn't mean their cousin isn't the deputy health inspected or something.

Plus yeah people here do tend to lose their minds about stuff like that.

Honestly i believe it's that being called out for being a bum by service staff is a huge insult here, much more so than back home.

A westerner you know isn't going to be connected and you feel empowered that you have the numbers on him. Plus it still feels like you're speaking truth to power to bust our balls about stuff.

yeah that would grate on me too.

At least you're a paying customer. Always frustrating you see all these people acting like total asses and then you get singled out for some tiny slight. Hahaha like you're in a line with tons of little jerks trying to cut in front, but then security asks you to leave immediately because you didn't have two feet on the line or something.

dongbeiren:

Yea I mean there I was well dressed with my work briefcase snacking on my smelly tofu while waiting in line to order and am told to leave. Now back home I would never consider bringing food from another establishment into KFC (actually back home I'd never be caught dead in a KFC) but here no one cares about that stuff. So why single me out? I guess I didn't look like the kind of person who would argue or give attitude to the staff while the peasant with the suitcase might cause trouble. Or the worker just really couldn't stand the smell. It's a little odd being singled out as a paying customer though considering what I saw going on around me.

i suspect more chinese go into KFC and McD for the comforts of having free warmth. Why stay at home in your cold flat, when you can just chill at the KFC doing the same thing(Drunk? IMHO, franchised businesses like KFC, McD, Starbucks, etc. need to hire experienced westerners as managers to run the business. but will this happen..most probably not.

expatlife26:

totally think you're right.

I actually do try to cut people some slack on this...for us being at home means usually being in a comfortable place. I've never met even the most modest westerner who shares a bedroom for one. Maybe roommates but always a nice comfy space.

a lot of these guys either living at home or piling in with a swarm in a shitbox of an apartment.

I get why they want to be out. But the problem is they have no concept of paying customers deserving a table more than they do. Get a couple little jerks hanging out for the free AC while a paying customer has no place to sit.

And thats just being a selfish little bum.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
