Q: How many quacks have you seen here?

Wifey recently had some tooth pain and went to see a dentist. Said 'dentist' told her she had a cracked tooth and that was because she was not drinking enough water. Told her to drink more water and it would be fine. I told her we will get a second opinion. Lo and behold, she needs proper treatment.

How many quacks have any of you seen and what were the consequences, if any?

I had a cracked tooth, dentist said the only solution was to pul it. I pointed at a tooth at the other side of the mouth. She said that was never going to last, at the time that fix was 5 years old, it's about 5 years ago. What she really meant was "I don't have the skill to help you"

I went to a dentist in Bao'an, Dr Hyde starts drilling on my tooth with no pain-killer, I nearly jumped out of my skin.  I sat there and insisted he numb it out, so, he pulls out this syringe looks like it's from the 1880's, big ol' stainless steel job with those rings for your fingers type things and da' fool jabs this big ol' needle into my gum w/out a topical first!!  Man, I felt just like that guy on Marathon Man!  'Is it safe?', 'Is it safe?'

fkn true that the #1 qualification for Dental School is the correct answer to-  'Are you a sadist?'  Yes.  OK, welcome to the club! devil

Awww mate, nasty!

I've broken a tooth but I'm waiting until I go back to the UK in October to get it sorted. After seeing the 'dentists' in this town, nope. The odd thing is, most of them that are not in hospitals, have their clients being drilled in a seat in the massive shop window! Advertising their incompetance.

I've actually had only good experiences with the dentists. Maybe it helps knowing where to go but I've always found them to be very professional and competant.

Hospitals and doctors on the other hand... maybe I was just going to the wrong places but the few times I've wound up in hospital I found them to be useless thieving c****.

The difference might be that doctors only work in govt operated hospitals with all the corruption, selling of jobs and general incompetance you'd expect to see in a govt operation. I've never heard of a private doctors practice.

The dentists I've been to have always been privately run, trained overseas and presumably couldn't get away with being as useless as a hospital.

yeah, to be fair I've been to a really good dentist too, up in Shandong. As professional as anyone could hope to find.  Guess it's the luck of the draw.  I've also had excellent care in hospital here,,, excellent (and I'm talking surgery).

Stiggs:

I've been told that getting decent medical care is very doable if you know where to go, who to talk to etc.

A guy I worked with had a girlfriend whose parents were both doctors. When a friend of his had a medical issue he happened to mention it to the doctors who said don't go to XXX or YYY hospitals, you to go to ZZZ hospital, ask to see doctor AAA and tell him BBB sent you.
