Q: How many times have you moved to a new house in China?

We're moving to our 3rd house(in the same city) in 2 years tomorrow. How many times have you moved in China?

13 times in 14 years! A mixture of temporary apartments (short term while looking for more suitable accommodations) and moving to different cities.

Makes you adept at choosing only the necessities and appreciating having those big plastic containers (all the same size) for moving.

A big help is Sante Fe Movers for big, long-distance moves, CRE (China Rail Express) for other inter-city moves on a budget).

I still haven't figured out if buying or renting is the way to go.

Well i've had to move all my belongings from one place of accommodation to another exactly 14 times and through 7 different towns and cities in the last 8 years. My back is killing me.

2 years, one place sounds like a record then. We have tried to move twice but the landlord drops the price each time

I think part of the problem (at least in BJ) is that rents keep going up on apartments in popular areas. I've been lucky in this regard so far, but a lot of my friend are "forced" to move when their rent doubles.

7 times in 6 years (bought 3 of them), covering 3 different cities.  Started and ended in my favorite city, Guangzhou.

Came to Nanning just over 2 years ago now, rented a place while the one we'd already bought was being 'decorated'. Moved into our own apartment Apr 2011.

I don't intend to move out until we go back to the UK spring / summer 2022.

6 times in 4 years. China has the habit of making me move more often that I'd like!

6 times in 8 years, in 2 different cities. Owned my apartment for 6 months, decided to sell it on a good offer in 2010.

With the profit I could pay the rent for a 3 floor single house in a premium garden for 3 years...

Considering I'm planning to get out from here end of 2014, I think it's been the right thing to do.

Never moved into a house. They are hard to come by. The places that we moved to were all apartment buildings. The latest one has been the best so far.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
