I also do have a "dust" problem at my place, have not determined yet if it comes from traffic on the big avenue in front of my building, or from air contaminants.
I dust and sweep almost on a daily basis, mop as needed,  Maybe twice a week.  I do enjoy a cloean place to live do.

My place gets cleaned daily.  If it isn't the dust builds up so fast that I get dust gorillas rather than dust bunnies.

In my bedroom, whenever is needed.  For the other rooms, honestly, once a month.  Long distance relationship so don't have to impress anyone here with a clean place and if a friend needs to crash here because he's too drunk to make it home, well he's more welcome to clean if he doesn't like the dust in the extra bedrooms.

Sweep every day and mop every other day. China is certainly one dusty place and if  you don't keep on top of it it sure builds up. It is amazing how the shit gets in even when all the windows are closed. Moving next year to a new high rise apartment on the 18th floor and will be interested to know if it will be as much of a problem.

I don't sweep often enough, but if it looks bad I get around to it. I live by myself, so it doesn't matter. I haven't mopped my floor yet, but I've never walked barefoot in this apartment. The floor was dirty when I moved in, but it's definitely more dirty now. I guess I'll use the mop I found on my balcony to clean it before I leave for Spring festival?

Is all of China dusty? I have 7 long haired indoor cats and a Collie and I only vacuum once a week, sometimes I can go 2 weeks, but there is no dust,, or maybe the critters do the dusting? Try getting cats ?
What do you think massage parlour girls would want to get wet and roll around on the floors to clean them?? I could hire them on off hours, sort of a new take off on cleaning ladies. It might catch on ? Sure be fun to watch.

Xpat.John:

Almost all apartments here have either wood or tile floors. Finding a place with carpet is a rarity. The Chinese don't use it mostly because of the high humidity in most places (and they think it is unclean).

you can never get the dirt out of a carpet, carpets are bad if you have allergies, but so nice to walk on,
