I believe there are 8 released here very year although I may be wrong.

I have read about it a few times on Wikipedia, and also a Chinese site. The number was 34 I think, or maybe 36 per year. I am not sure on how they are selected.

These days it's 20. Although western movies can bypass that if they have a Chinese actor or at least one whole scene is shot in China.

I guess they are negociated directly between government and studios, bringing only the blockbusters big enough to still bring money despite ridiculous taxes imposed, and which content is consensual enough so as not to hurt the harmonious feeling of China spirit.

 

Which means mostly superhero diarrea on our decade.
