Your "Z" visa expires 30 days after you originally entered China, and obtained the FEC, the health certificate, the work permit and the residence permit.

Normally both permits are granted for the length of your work contract with your employer, and they do not allow you to do any other type of work legally, for pay or for free. So, as long as your contract is renewed, your work and residence permits will also be renewed.

Now, if you change jobs, you have 10 days to go to PSB with required documentation (release letter, offer of new employment, etc), and they will change your residence permit according to the new contract. And to Labor Bureau for the work permit related to the new employer.

lol, I thought he might be referring to working permits, I still have tons of new friends that come here say: I working on a Z visa.

At least we gave him both versions.

As long as you are working for a company that can hire foreigners, well until the company goes bankrupt,  doomsday or World war III starts, you can work here FOREVER until your last breath.  I'm going on my 6th year of working visa's.

By the way, a Z visa is not the correct term, a Z visa is just a visa that allows you to apply for work or to comapny.

So here are some useful nicknames for your visa:

1. Working resident permit.

2. Working Permit (Z visa).

3. Working Z visa resident permit.

4. Legal working permit.
