Did up some steamed broccoli, black-eyed peas (brought from Atlanta), mashed potatoes, and fried lemon-crusted fish at home tonight.  Bottle of Argentine Cab Sav from "Trader Zhou's" - seriously - which set me back 65 kuai, but tasty and easy on the palate.  Homemade meal ran me & my better half about 30 kuai, barring the wine.  With the wine, 95 kuai.

In a restaurant, woulda cost us at least 300% more.

So, yeah.  Nothin' like home cookin'!

we eat out  4-5 times a month....... I prefer a good chinese place and she prefers a western fast food joint to eat out at.....  how long will it take to educate her that McDonald's and KFC and Pizza Hut, really are not good food..................  for me, home cooking is the only way to go, but of course we must go out from time to time.............  can't beat a good Chinese dinner.

Red_Fox:

Agree about a good Chinese resto.  When you find the right one with the right balance, there's nothing like it (except home cookin' - if you can cook Chinese).  And by right balance, I mean clean, fresh food, adequate portions - so no waste, and a bill of fare that won't break the bank.  Corollary elements: efficient, discreet service; great atmo; easy on the kitchen stench, ciggie fumes, and baijo pukers; decibel levels attenuated at about +/- 3, meaning no loudmouth waiters or patrons, screeching babies/hysterical girlfriends having temper tantrums in a public place; and clean water closets when you need to get up btwn courses and have a slash.  Hate wading through puddles of urine between courses.  Oh!  And paper hand towels in the WC, please.  Hot water, too?  Please???

Once your standard Chinese restaurant gets with the program, we may eat out more.

We probably eat out once or twice per week. My wife a little more due to logistics of her job, but some weeks I will have all my food at home.

Yeah my gf is literally in the kitchen right now.

I made a little English breakfast this morning, toast, eggs, bacon and beans w/green pepper and mushroom.

Every now again I like a trip to metro to stock up on some easy to cook stuff like pastas, sauces, ham and cheese (for sandwiches) although the prices are mind numbing.
