Q: How many of you have actually gotten the Japanese encephalitis vaccine?

Is it really necessary for an urban area for 1+ year(Drunk? I'm convinced the CDC is really just trying to cover their ass for liability reasons by listing every possible disease for a given country.

I have not had that. As I live in China, but am very close to Hong Kong, I have followed the advice for Hong Kong, which according to my countrys version of the CDC does not have JE on the list.

I had it for Indonesia in 1977, but never for China.

I tried to get one back in the States before I came to China, but it wasn't available, because it's not a popular vaccine.  To get it, I would have had to travel to either NYC or Albany, and I was just too lazy to do it.

I have never gotten the vaccine nor have I ever contracted Japanese Encephalitis despite travelling a fair bit throughout rural China throughout the years. I heard that the vaccine can cause very strong side effects and will probably make you very sick for about 2 weeks. If you're planning to mainly live in a city then you don't have to worry about it.

surpriseI've never gotten any vaccine of that sort here. First time I've actually heard about this. If it's not mandatory to take I won't take it. I avoid hospitals here at all costs! (Drunk!

He he, I said: "costs"!

Scandinavian:

Usually the way it works is you get the vaccine before you leave your home country. Do you have a mark on your shoulder from a vaccine you got as a child ?
