Q: How many of you keep a personal China blog?

I had one when I first arrived and gave up after about two entries. Did any of you keep it up longterm or does it lose its appeal (and readership) after a while?

I had several blogs over the years.  Either I would loose interest in them, or the wrong people would find them.  :)

I tried anon-blogging for a while, but that got kind of old and I disliked the fact that I couldn't share it with anyone I knew or the anon factor would be a moot point.

If you blog for readers, then you will get bored really quick.  You need to blog for yourself and not care how many readers you have.  At least that is what I told myself when I wrote my blogs.

I think it's difficult to find a balance between writing for yourself and considering your audience. Because it's open to the public to read, I find myself sub-consciously thinking about number of readers, standing out from other blogs and wanting to be the best China blog. But most people just write the same and there's not that much unique content out there anymore. I found this discouraging and gave up. I still jot down ideas on my personal lap top, I just dont post them anymore.

I have a blog, but these days it is more current news stories and opinions about China, and has 45 other contributors also adding to it. I found that writing personal experiences about China became repetitive, and even a little depressing.

I do. As with traveler, writing about all the places I've been became repetitive and a little droll so now I usually talk about unusual events, people, and China news.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
