Q: How many of you would symphatize with babies awaken/scared by fireworks?

What I like in every country, especially in China, is the need to hide behind culture and traditions to do whatever someone wants.
But does a baby/infant due to his fragile nature not deserve some respect in his sleep during the night? Can traditions and culture be more important than scaring a baby and making him cry?
In my compound in Shanghai, they put a simple regulation to avoid fireworks inside the compound during the Chinese New Year. How many Chinese do you think respected that rule? Both guards and the management office didn't care about it.
Well, I do as well as many Chinese mothers on Internet who think their baby is more precious and deserves to sleep well.
So to all the people that put fireworks during their sleep, I just wish them a Unhappy Chinese New Year.

I disagree with your idea that Chinese people "hide" besides customs and traditions to do as they want.  I honest;ly feel they do not hide at all, they just do what it is customary to them.  Besides, fireworks on New Year celebrations is customary almost everywhere.

Now, in regards to babies here in China and everywhere.  I do believe some will be awakened and scared with the noise, but that will not cast a damaging experience in their minds, oncde held in their mothers' arms they will go right back to sleep, and those memories will fade out very soon.

I have myself (and fully realize I am not a baby) slept thru many fireworks displays, was awaken by the noise, and managed to go back to sleep a few minutes later, and not because of that I will not share a few moments with friends and fireworks at special occassions.

I feel you are over reacting a little bit do.

My babies have always slept right through fireworks & thunder from the day they were born.

But I do know that some kids are sensitive to noise.  And I do feel a little sorry for them and their parents.

However, if you are looking to live in a country where following the rules, caring about others (outside their tight circle of family & friends) and general common courtesy are the norm, then you are REALLY in the wrong country.

I really hadn't thought of that and this is a good question. I'm not sure what it is like where your at but the fireworks usually go off in the late late hours so the babies can sleep. The fireworks usually starts in the morning and continues on during the day and then they start setting the largest amount of firecrackers at night. It can be a problem but with the housing system and with so many people living closely to one another it is difficult to not encounter a problem such as noise. They always have children screaming and crying and sometimes you can hear fights in the apartment building.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
