Q: How much are heating bills?

Trying to get a feel of how much utilities cost in China. I understand this will vary by regions, types of housing, and so on. I will soon be in the North, so, heating costs are what I am most interested in.

Actually, where I am we don't pay for the heating as the apartments are centrally heated. I presume the owner might but that's not passed on to us. No central heating in Shenyang?

woody:

Yep. Central heating and my partner is the owner. She rented her old joint out for a while and the people who rented it had to pick up theheating bill if they wanted it. It's the steam heating thing with the heater on the wall in each room hooked up to the pipes. keeps the place very warm. The newer ones with the underfloor are even better.

Apartments in NE China have nice heating system. You don't need to pay anything esp if you have a good company/school. Not unless you are free lancer.

Monthly bills is up to 120 rmb but that depends what appliances you have.

Don't worry electricity is so cheap here.

If you are in the northern part of the country where everything is manditorily heated by the government, it will run about 2,000RMB for the entire winter (typically, from Oct. 15th till end of March depending on the weather).

This money is paid by the home owner and will be assumed into your rent.

If you are in a place without mandated heating, it will depend on how big your place is, the quality of the heaters, how often you use the heating, etc...  Typically, you can plan on spending about 100-150RMB per month for heat.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
