A COUPLE spends nothing on a wedding ceremony, the MAN or GROOM pays for the whole thing.  The BRIDE and her family just show off.
Now, the wedding ceremony at the Marriage Bureau cost less than 10 Yuan, the documentation required for it to happen, especially if a foreigner is involved, is another story.

And the wedding banquet cost will depend on a few factors, like where is held, number of guests, number of different dishes (minimum 5, normally 8 to 12), quality and amount of drinks, DJ or not, photographer or not, rooms for family to rest and change clothes if at a hotel, etc.

I have neen to wedding banquets costing from 5,000 to 150,000 yuan, and there was one hell of a difference.  But I will say an average of 15,000 to 25,000 yuan is a safe bet.
Multiply your number of guests by 125 and you will have a good estimate in general.

I went to one a few weeks ago. Not sure what they spent but there were around 30 tables in a top hotel. Lots of trimmings like string trio when walking in. A couple of variety type acts including a very hot women in a very short skirt (not that I noticed lol) playing an electric violin and lots of hire cars.

I do know they recieved 80K plus in hong bao, but my guess is the grooms parents spent a bit more than that.

It depends on what your WIFE and her family wants.
We had two dinners - and it cost us about 40K RMB - for the food and drinks only.
The wedding ceremony itself, including photos, video, travel, accomodations, clothing, gifts, and other necessities, cost a lot more.
Good luck!
