Q: How much can I earn by recycling trash?

I always see old men and women on the street collecting paper, foam and plastic bottles. I know they take it to be recycled, but is it REALLY that lucrative? And worth scraping around in filthy bins?

For example, how much can you get for one glass bottle? One plastic bottle? Maybe there's a business here us 'lao wai' don't know about...

For some people, collecting rubbish is actually enough to get by. Some of the people pushing carts with metal and other recycable waste can make about 1500 on a good month. Obviously, these people's earnings are on the bottom of the scale, but they contribute towards a good cause - namely recyling - so they deserve the utmost respect in my opinion.

I often see old-age pensioners collecting empty bottles, with a sack in one hand and their walking stick in the other...let's not forget that they get no pensions so I'm sure the few kuai they make a day goes a long way.

$1 dollar (HK) per one cardboard. It's very competive among the seniors.
