Q: How much to charge for proofreading?

Hey guys, so I was asked to proofread an English document, 30 pages, sort of financialy, and asked to name my own price. Anyone know what the going rate is?

The price will depend upon the city where you are, the precise nature of the translation and honestly the financial position of the person that handed you the proofreading.  If you are doing a straight-forward proofreading for spelling, syntax, etc., then that is one price; if you are doing a proofreading, aka a rewrite, which is often the case, then there is a much steeper price for that one.  Really, really, the price varies according the locale.

Nothing have them do it themselves. Let them spell check and do all the work. That's like doing someone else's homework for them if they give you money. Just push it back at them and let them do their own work.
