Q: How much do Chinese parents pay for the education of their kids?

And does it vary depending on how famous the middle/high school is?

From what I know, locally in the city I do live, grammar school is free of cost for Chinese nationals.  Middle school runs about 2,000 Rmb per year, and High chool is about 5,000 Rmb per year.  Of course, depending on the ranking of the school, a "donation" to some sort of fund may be required to insure acceptance to that particular "elite" school.  Normally, if you do graduate from one of those "elite" schools, your chances of entering a "good" college will be a lot greater.  One school principal told me to my face that a donation of 50,000 to 75,000 Rmb will assure acceptance of application, depending on test results obtained.  If grades were at a satisfactory level, a donation will seal the deal.
