What's your visa situation? From what you've said, there's a very real chance you'll need to include the cost of a visa run to Hong Kong in your budget.

50k (I assume you mean RMB) should be plenty to survive in Shanghai for several months.  Of course, it all depends on your spending habits.

As far as finding a job goes, that is a completely different story.  If you are looking to do English teaching, it will be possible, but your pay will probably be lower than a native English speaker even if you speak Chinese fluently.

If you want another type of job, it will heavily depend on the type of unique skills you bring to the table and how good you are at networking and making the needed connections in your chosen industry.

You are better off if you can manage to get a few job interviews before relocate yourself to Shanghai. I takes time to find a job, and the last thing you need is having you visa expired before you land on a job. try look on the Chinese job site for local job offers if you can read Chinese.... Chinahr.com or 51jobs.com

jojocowl:

oh...as for living expenses in Shanghai, around 3000rmb or less if your rent is less than 1500rmb....food, phone bill and transportation 1500
