Depending upon how "amicable" the divorce can be worked out, and how few contentious issues there are on either side, the average price for a divorce in China is probably RMB 2,000.00.  Should either the husband or wife be litigiously inclinded, however, the divorce can cost upwards of RMB 25,000.  If you can, settle all of the financial arrangements, disposition of property, etc., etc., out of court.  If you need a lawyer in China, divorce lawyers work by the hour, just as do their counterparts in the West.

Divorce in China is different, depending who is involved.

If two Chinese nationals, and both agree to divorce and sasset split, just do the reverse of the marriage, go to Marriage Buerau, file proper documents asking for divorce, and on the Red marriage Booklet will be noted now that you are divorced.  Cost, less than 10 Rmb.  If no asset agreement is reached, then goes to Family Court, and lawyer fees will be involved.

But if one of the marriage partners is a foreigner, by law must go to Family Court.  The cheapest way is to have an agreement to be separated, and also an agreement to split assets.  Then lawyer fees and Court fees will be minimum, since very little of their time will be used.  But if there is no prior agreement, the foreigner will spend a bundle, and will probably end in the loosing end of the final decree.  I have seen a few who even lost their apartment, ebven if purchased prior to marriage date, and in his name only.
