My mother in law justn died in Nanning. I have agreed to pay part of the costs. However the cost according to relatives is five times as much as in the US? Franck3
the best grave site and cremation in jinan is about 110,000 rmb for the rich people.
however land and graves are more expensive in south china. many people cremate and take ashes to cheaper graves in the countryside.
Sorry about your families loss. I cannot talk for Nanning, but I know some rough prices for what it cost here in Zhuhai. The actual service, cremation etc. is about 10-20000CNY. The price will vary depending on flowers and how fancy the urn is to be.
The grave site however can be very expensive. The price will vary from location to location inside the actual graveyard. I believe here it is possible to do for 25-50000CNY.
It may not be the most appropriate of times to think this way, but remember that funerals are big business in China, and it is a chance for people to buy face.

Thank you for the info. She will joint her husband who already has a grave site. Franck3
I gotta weigh in on this one. First, my condolences. Second, I will tell you what I did. My brother, my best friend, my big brother, he died in 2006. I cremated him. Funeral services and cremation ran me about 2,000 Euros. Then I buried his ashes at sea in a biodegradable urn. A friend piloted the boat. No plot, no gravestone. It was what he would have wanted because he loved the sea. This was off the coast of Spain 6+ years ago. So.
Though I am unable to provide you an answer, I just want to say, I am sorry for your loss.
Cremation is less expensive than a burial....it might be 5 X more but you have to think the burial would be 5 X more than the cremation!
