Q: How much does it cost you to travel?

Started looking at Airfares for our annual pilgrimage to the Middle Kingdom . Normally   this time of year  it is about $850 Aus from Brisbane to Harbin and about $20 on the train (hard sleeper) to Mudanjiang  So for less than a $1000 per adult it is a cheap trip . So how much does it cost you to commute ?

It's 230SGD from Singapore direct to Guangzhou. 40RMB taxi and I am back in Panyu district. Perhaps it will cost a little more when I move to Hebei next month on a new gig. But it's still less than 500SGD overall.

last time we forked out 13000RMB per person per return ticket... it's also a bit further than just "down under"

philbravery:

Just down under  hahaha still takes around 23 hrs of travel by the time we change planes and and a 6 hr train trip

Don't know other region but for Europe. It's possible to get a return ticket to China for less than 500 Euro. But from China to Europe is much more expensive.

Well luckily my hometown is Los Angeles, so I'll take a train(3hrs) from Zibo to Shanghai (443rmb) and then fly back and forth(15hr flight) from Los Angeles (4892rmb) and then another train back to Zibo (443rmb). So my total trip would cost 5778rmb or $950usd.

cooter:

Uh, I've flown from PVG->LAX many times....typically only takes 11 hours.  Even Shanghai to Chicago is less than 14 hours usually.  Maybe one of those circuitous driving black taxi drivers pilots your airplane on his off days :P

Sorry that was my mistake..I was going off of the last time I flew and it was 15 hours, but I forgot I didn't fly from LAX that time, I flew from Detroit lol

My expense report is usually in the 6-7000 rmb range.  Roundtrip airfare from Shanghai to the states + roundtrip train/bus between Ningbo and Shanghai.

Delta added a daily Beijing to Seattle route a few years ago so its easy for me, about US$1000 for an 11-hour flight. Now travel within China/Asia, that would be interesting to know how people here save money.

TAO-PEK-SFO over Christmas Y5100 RT.  Although, I will now avoid Air China at all costs.  Miserable experience.

cooter:

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend a non-mainland carrier (HK carriers like Cathay Pacific are outstanding) for the international portion of your trip.

Yeah, live and learn.  Previously, I have taken Korean carriers to Seoul and made the short hop over to Qingdao that way.  I'm going back  to forking over the extra $50.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
