Q: How much should a 6 month gym membership be in Guangzhou?

I know that there is a lot of variation, and it is an almost impossible question to answer. But I just checked out this gym near my house and it is big, but a bit dirty. The changing rooms are pretty gross, but the machinery is all great and they have a bunch of different classes including yoga, pilates, dance etc. I tried one of them and the teacher seemed good to me.

They said 6 month membership (with classes included) would 1500 kuai. Is this good or bad? What are the ranges we are looking at?

That's what I paid for a 13 month membership at my current place (1 year plus 1 bonus month, hurray).  It was brand new at the time, not very big, but has all the same amenities you listed.  The big difference is that I'm in a 4th tier city.  My previous gym in the same city was an old dump of about the same size; it was only 365 rmb for a 1 year membership.

In my opinion, they're on the high side.  They're asking about the same price I would expect to pay in the US for a NICE gym, that would also include basketball courts, swimming pools, etc etc....

guess thats quite expensive but you can also find much more expensive gyms.

near here is a gym they want 1000 for 50 times makes 25 rmb per visit. for a whole year they want 5k but can reduce it to at least 2k
