A very rich person is interested in learning English and has asked me to be their tutor. The problem is I don't know how much to charge and I don't want to rip them off simply because they're rich. On the other hand, I don't want to sell myself too cheap either. Any advice? How much should I charge per hour or hour and half?

For you 50 kuai would sound about right! If he wants to keep you around after the first several months of teaching him try to bump it up to at least 80 kuai!
craigslist has private tutors charging 150 to 200 an hour, the longer you have been here , the more you charge, also depends on what your teaching ielts, toefl , basic english, etc.
Hi, I have met several friends who do this and the standard is around 300 RMB per hour. My one friend cuts a deal with some of her students for 240 RMB per 50 minute session... Most 1 on 1 tutor companies charge 300 per hour or more and give the teacher something like 200 rmb per hour... but it seems you can use word of mouth to build up your own customer base ... the price may vary in poorer areas of the city, but if you look at all those luxury and semi-luxury cars on the road ... they all have sufficient money to pay you 300 RMB per hour.... Beijing has the highest number of millionaires in China ... MTMT
If you don't have the experience or developed the ability to teach yet, it would be better to charge a price that is in accordance with what you can currently offer and change your prices after you get used to tutoring. If you charge too low, you will not get motivated to give your required part of the business. Being too greedy while giving a service might backfire or give you too much pressure to deliver a service that is higher than your current abilities.
If you are disregarding your abilities and instead are only thinking of charging higher prices only because that person is rich, then it would be no different from the Chinese sellers who extravagantly overcharge foreigners just because they presume they are richer. I am pretty sure most foreigners despise those kind of sellers.
I would charge no less than 250 rmb. Prices for everything are higher these days and that should include tutoring fees. We all have to make a living somehow so you shouldn't sell yourself short.
