Q: How much tax should someone pay in China?

If I make a salary of 14,000 RMB per month, how much of it should I pay in tax? I was paying 1320 RMB a month in taxes in September and October. For my November salary, my tax jumped up to 1430 RMB.

Is this normal? I just want to be prepared when I talk to my school about this situation.

Normal in what sense? Every province has its own rules regarding taxes, I don't know about any raise that happened in November where I live, but it's not impossible.

in shanghai i pay over 20% tax (but yea i also earn a bit more)

i just have no clue how they do it thats why i negotiated with a salary after tax.

i thought the tax are based on how much you earn.

<5000 = 0%

5000-10000 = 10% etc

Income tax rates we revised on March of 2013.  As already said, they are progressive, d depend on the area of China you reside, and other factors such as if you are given housing if reported as  income for tax purposes.

There is a handy site that does explain more details besides has a calculator to estimate your tax liability based on your monthly income.  Remember, in China you pay monthly not yearly as in USA for example.
