Q: How much time should I allow to renew my residence permit?

I am working with for the same public high school as last year.Do I take care of this myself or is it the responsibility of the school? Do I need a copy of my contract? If so I have a signed contract with the agency, but not the one with the school yet, because they are arguing with the agency about some small detail.                                                                     The agency tells me not to worry about the schools contract with me, because this is how it's done in China. It's hard to argue with the fact that China's contractual law is odd so I am just accepting their word on this. Am I stupid for doing trusting them on this matter.                                                                                                                                              What else is needed ? Has anything changed with the new visa rules?

I usually start asking Qs at the School a month before RP expiration.

As I understand, you cannot extend it yourself. Your School rep. must be present with few School's documents.

In Xinjiang, it took PSB overnight to extend RP, and returned my passport. However, that was the fastest extension in 4 years in China.

Usually, it takes a week before police return my passport with new extension.

If I were you, I would do it yourself just to make sure it is done on time, since you will be the one suffering the consequences if not done in time.

Local PSB normally work (receiving requests) from Monday thu Thursday, and Friday morning. Friday afternoon is for collecting your passport back, and will not receive any requests.
It used to be 5 working days, but after July 1, 2013 it was extended to 14 working days I am told. Cost will depend on your nationality, for USA born a one year, multiple entries runs very close to 1,000 Rmb.

Close Happy, you need to renew your contract with your school, if the agency is the one who provided you to the school, they will most likely be handling this part in which your probably getting screwed by the school and the agency, try to get away from them and deal directly with the school. As of July 1st it takes 15 working days and you must begin renewing your visa at least 30 days to expiration of your current visa. Extra paper work for your employer will go in effect Aug. 15th, you will be asked for a criminal record this go around, if you are lucky, you are located in Mid to South of China where they are allowing foreigners to adjust to the new laws, the North East of China, not so much luck but have granted extensions to be able to obtain the correct documents, if you are in the west of China, no one gives a sh*t so most likely, everything will remain the same, it cost exactly 800 rmb for most Western Countries for a one year multi R Visa.

BHGAL:

my old visa was set to expire Dec. 14, 2012.

I went in 4 days early Dec.10th. to apply, and I was assured it would be ready for the 14th.

I went in at the end of the day on the 13th, hoping to save a nights hotel..... the big basket of ready documents was there and I could see my documents... asked to have them....showed them my papers and they said.... 14th, go home....no, It's right there!!! that didn't work.

Came back the next morning and pointed to it and they gave it to me.... no problem.

I did however, in the process, lose 4 days..... my new residence permit expires on Dec.10, 2013. ( i.e. date of extension application, not an extension to my old one.)

If the processing is now going to take 2 weeks or a month......  am I going to lose that time again on my next permit application.....probably huh!!

I could find nothing new on the Guangzhou PSB site about the changes that took place on July 1st.

http://www.gzjd.gov.cn/guide/index_jsp_catid_662_683.html

no rate changes or anything....

BHGAL, unfortunately, you are in Guangzhou with the wrong time, it takes 15 working days which is 3 weeks, you should begin the process on Nov. 10th for they require 30 days before expiration and it means you will be hit with the criminal record; should have already been since you are in Guangzhou, this should have been asked for before, if it was, you may still be required to present one, local though, not national, do not quote me on that though, you know how oh China works, could change policies by then, but it should'nt affect you to badly for you will in line with have everything completed before the spring festival, if you are talking about extending or renewing a L visa, go to Hong Kong, as I have heard from multiple sources, applying for extensions in mainland has been denied to a lot of Foreigners

Is this for the Visa, Resident Permit or both?

Resident permit, L visa takes 7 days and can no longer be expedited. I watched an entire house of Philippinos, Africans, Germans, Russians, Americans, Canadians and so on leave the PSB Fri. with utter confusion when I took a trip to the PSB with a box of good cigs. and gift cards to find out exactly what was needed when I renew my R visa in the beginning of Aug. that is where I got my information, they where really upfront with me and I found out that a local criminal check was fine if that was my last place of residence before I moved to China. I'm not sure if the L visa holders where trying to extend two or three days before expiration or they where flat out denied, this however does not affect people who are married to Chinese citizens.

Does this apply to Z visa?

Yes, 30 days before expiration and 3 weeks processing Guil, I do hope this isn't a problem for youcrying

GuilinRaf:

Looks like it will be.

The FAO here in my school keep insisting that as long as the process begins before the expiration date, I have nothing to worry about. They insist I am worrying about nothing. my visa expires july 29....

I even asked them to call the PSB to make sure but they keep insisting "no need".

The FAO guy who does this is out of town and wont be back for three days.

I suspect that this is not going to effect me..... I am married to a Chinese, and I am retired/lazy/don't work ........ only effect will be  more time involved and probably a lot of confusion ...... .........  my years extension for my 800RMB may also become 11 months instead of 12 .............  if that happens, give me something to complain about to the Chinese authorities .....  LOL .... good luck

Without a doubt the process is a pain in the butt. There is actually no one in my school who feels the need to take in the responsibility. After working here a year I have absolutely no idea who is in charge of me. My visa expires at the end of the month and I am having trouble getting a man out of bed to help me. Besides me, this school has had one foreign teacher in the last 8 years. They have no idea what to do or how long it will take. If it wasn't for the agency in BJ I would be totally screwed. Luckily I am in the middle of nowhere in central China so he laws will be fairly loose and free.

BHGAL:

document   document .. document   ...  a journal ... this is what I did and when I did it......I think these things are always good.... ... even if they don't believe me....  I know when I a right  ....... and when you are "right" ... usually things go well, wherever you are.

Gil, that is the norm, but, you will need 30 days, if your location is in a well-developed city, but listen, if it is a popular school and they have guanxi, no problem, if not, no worries either, every tourist visa holder who has stayed beyond 30 days are being required to exit immediately and can no longer apply in Hong Kong, business visa holders are no longer allowed to extend or renew in Hong Kong, they must go back to their home country, so it is not like they can just find a replacement, for legal workers here, this is what we have been waiting for, take them for all you can while the getting is good, request your salary in your home countries currency and keep your money in Standard Band, Citic Bank or your home countries bank, ah, or Hong Kong, this does seem like a good way to freeze or take illegal workers bank accounts and put it back into the system. Gal, yes, you are correct, you can renew your family L visa at your husbands hometown at the exit/entry PSB and it will take 7 days, now worries on that.

Go to PSB, and tell them 'nobody wants to take responsibility of your RP extension'. You can visit SAFEA too, with the same information.

Ask for their addresses at the School, first. You'll probably won't get an answer at the School, but at least you'll tell them 'you mean business'.
Ask for their address at the Bank where you are holding account. They for sure have somebody who speaks English, and will be able to find their addresses.

With the new system in place, has anyone renewed their residence permit recently? How long did it take?

Answer of the DayMORE >>
A: In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in releva
A:In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in relevance depending on the context and location. Here's a breakdown of each aspect:a) Getting the teaching job: Teaching certificates can certainly enhance your chances of securing a teaching position, especially in formal educational settings such as schools and language institutions. Many employers prefer candidates who have undergone specific training in pedagogy and instructional techniques, which these certificates often provide. However, other factors such as experience, references, and the demand for teachers in a particular area also play significant roles in the hiring process.b) Getting a higher salary than your uncertified competitors: In some cases, holding a teaching certificate can indeed lead to a higher salary compared to uncertified competitors. Many educational institutions have structured salary scales that take into account factors such as level of education, years of experience, and additional certifications. Holding a teaching certificate may place you in a higher salary bracket or make you eligible for certain salary incentives or bonuses. However, this can vary widely depending on the specific policies of the institution or organization.c) Getting promotions: Teaching certificates can be beneficial for career advancement and securing promotions within the field of education. They demonstrate a commitment to professional development and mastery of teaching skills, which are qualities that many employers value when considering candidates for leadership positions or administrative roles. Additionally, some promotions may require specific certifications or qualifications, making holding a teaching certificate essential for advancement in certain cases.Regarding which certificate yields better results, it largely depends on the specific requirements of the job market and the educational context in which you intend to work. For example:A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is often highly regarded in formal school settings and can be advantageous for those seeking positions in primary or secondary education.Montessori certification is valuable for individuals interested in working in Montessori schools or implementing Montessori principles in their teaching approach.A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate is particularly relevant for those seeking to teach English to non-native speakers in international contexts or language schools.Ultimately, the best certificate for you will depend on your career goals, the specific requirements of the positions you're interested in, and the preferences of potential employers in your target job market. It's essential to research the requirements and preferences of employers in your desired field and tailor your qualifications accordingly. -- ruqaiya761
