Q: How often do you feel homesick?

Once a month? Once a year? Or have you achieved the expat nirvana and don't feel homesickness anymore?

I though I was no longer affected, but China proved me wrong a few weeks ago. For me it would be once or twice per year.

Whenever I go home to see friends/family and then have to come back. Seeing as I only go for a week or 2 at a time, it all flies by and is all very rosy and wonderful. The plane ride home is always tough, though I usually get back in the swing of things after a few days.

Every time I go home; the place makes me sick. WAHAH! No, honestly, I feel it once a year at Christmas. Christmas here sucks. Last time I went back I was glad to leave though. I've even had dreams where i'd found myself back home without the funds to get back over here and I was really disappointed. Go figure.

Never, I am a grown person. If the question had been how often I felt like a hotdog from my favorite hotdog vendor back home the answer would be different.

Shining_brow:

I'll pay that sort of thought!!! Very true! (though, not hot dogs...)

Going 15 months without seeing my home country was too much last time. I started to miss it a lot after about a year, so now I have Christmas planned again this year.

I've spent over 30 years travelling / working around the world in my last career and this, I felt homesick (a little) when I had family in the UK, now, no family left in UK, my immediate family are with me here in China, this is home, I am home, so no homesickness.

I haven't a clue how I'll feel in 9 years when we relocate to the UK.

I miss my family a lot.

The boiled food here is not good.  I miss Indian spicy food. Though there are a few Indian restaurants here, but no one is as good as we have back in India.

NiceBrice:

Cheers to that. I am seriously unimpressed by the quality of Indian food in China. For shame!
