Sitting in the office, looking out the window and I saw a bird. I was all like "holy sh*t, a bird! In February! In Beijing!"
It's been so long since I've seen/heard one, it really caught me off guard. Urban Beijing doesn't have a lot of wildlife. It's something I really miss about back home. How about your city?
Zhuhai has almost no wildlife as well, unless you count chickens, dogs, cats and rats then there is a lot. There is the odd small bird, but it's rare, and I almost never see birds if I am just downtown walking around.
I live in a very "wet" community. Lot's of park with manmade waterholes. About this time of year will be the beginning of frog season. Lots of frogs quacking 24/7. You would think that would attract birds but it doesn't. I am sure it's a good life to be a rat here.
DaqingDevil:
A quacking frog? Nah that's one of those Chinese frucks or the closely related drog! (Sorry mate, couldn't resist!)
Scandinavian:
I present to you, the Quacking Frog http://childhoodreading.com/?p=126
Also, frogs don't say "ribbit" as the English speaking world mistakenly thinks. Although I think the Japanese are also wrong in thinking they say "gero gero"
I see the occasional bird here and there. If I'm unfortunate to have to park under a tree, then I will see the lovely birds' byproducts splattered all over my car
Otherwise, all I ever see is livestock, pets, and insects.
I see wildlife all the time when I visit the inlaws. Haven't in a while, though. There's a monkey that makes funny sounds like AROOOOOOOOOOOOO ARAHHHHHHHHH AROOOOOOOOO AROOOOOOOOO.
Scandinavian:
don't call your mother in law a monkey, I mean, you are married to her offspring
Hulk:
And she's totally different. Not the same person, etc.
My wife is a sweetheart. The other is... a bleakheart.
I was thinking the same just the other day. I'm in Shanghai and it's the same. I do here birds in a morning occasionally. There's trees next to where I live so I guess they're in there. Saw a snake outside my apartment block once, only a small one.
Lots of birds in my building complex here in Shenzhen...many different kinds chirping away all day. It is more pleasant when the jack hammer is not going off at the same time across the street.
Besides this I have seen little except for rats.
Every morning, afternoon and evening where I'm at. Birds chirping all over the place. Plus, I work near one of the mountains and there is bound to be some wild life coming from that direction. I see those black crows in China the colorful kind not like back home where they are totally Black! Other than birds nothing else really...
I used to go climbing at every weekend. So nice to have fresh air.
In and around Nanning I see monkeys outside the city, quite a few birds. Rats abound in the city including in the supermarkets. But what Nanning needs most is mosquito abatement. Their mosquitoes are very small but are very potent. I still have scares on my tummy from 10 years ago. If Nanning ever gets malaria mosquitoes they will be in all kinds of trouble.Franck3
In Shanghai I see lots of birds just out my window and at parks, lots of dogs and cats that people don't wont anymore and throw them out so now there wild animals.
I take it you don't mean the 'wild' life trying to get on and off the buses, subways or elevators?
