Q: How to read search results?

Trying not to ask a million questions that have already been asked I wanted to use the search function. Unfortunately when I have done this so far it only gives me the option to select either the person who posted the question, or the section that the post has been catergorised to. Then I've had to trawl through all of that posters questions until I find the one I want.

There has to be an easier way!

Ask you are typing your question into the Ask/Search field, you will see the similar questions automatically appear. The more you type, the more similar the results.

If you ask, "Visa?" You're not going to get much help, if you type, "How can I extend my visa...?" You'll see the relevant questions that have already been asked.

Hi Sinobear, thanks for your answer. I wasn't aware of that function, so that should be helpful. However what I was referring to was once you search an answer and you have a positive result in the list created below, how can I view the thread? There doesn't seem to be a hyper link to the thread? Only hyper links for the poster and the category.

Sinobear:

It's not perfect, but it should give you an idea of what has already been asked before.

These kinds of sites attract advertisers based on the number of members (and an equal number of sock-puppets) and posts.

Asking a question that may have been asked before might be a minor faux-pas if done accidentally, but helps the numbers - ergo the ad revenue - as well.

Post away!

Haha ah ok...  I also found this link which explained a lot, including the frustration involved in trying to answer a post without a string of letters missing from the text you write!

Hmm, I can't even copy and paste the link...crying

Ok thanks to all that answered. I appreciate the positive support and it's pretty crazy to think you all put up with that on each post you type!

The web browser question... I feel a new question coming on!
