Q: How was your day - blank

Just want to ask the guys and gals on here in a relationship - if you ask your other half how was their day, do you ever get an answer broader than fine?

I mean like my girlfriend will tell me she had a meeting, business dinner or the likes, but will never go into any detail whatsoever. Like, this person said this and we all laughed or I thought I was fighting a losing battle then I turned it around like this.

It's also the basic foundation of of conversation. How are you.........how was your day.........I tend to get p1ssed off at this point and sulk to myself. I have tried to explain this basic theory of the conversation starter. Her English is very good by the way.

Am I expecting too much?!?!?

I am not interested at all in how my flavor-of-the-month's day went.  I am only interested in knowing how hot the night will be.

You probably are. This type of answer seems to be the normal one here, real conversation like we are accustomed to seems to be outside of their thought process. I think it starts with school and parenting where people are not encouraged to ask questions, they just have to accept. Questions make a conversation, responses here tend to be more of a statement with no real thought to carrying on any further than that.

Anon,

OMG, I know what you mean! It's not just Chinese that are impossible to have a bit of a conversation with. It's an Asian thing..South Koreans,Filipinos, etc. as well. I know this from personal experience. :( I've also heard the arrogant,smart-ass "That doesn't interest me." comment from Chinese females.

I think the best way to have a good conversation with a chinese people is to comment and talk about every person who walks past you. On the point when my gf says hai ke yi and other small answer. You need to ask around 5-6 questions to get on to something. Then after that she goes into detail of some aspect. It's been changing. Now I only need to ask 2. Sometimes talking about my day triggers her own recollection of hers lol. It's like one the days over the want no part of it. Wishing for something new the next day.
