last day before work. i had fun with my 2 kids. we didn't travel much because my wife has a toothache+pulled teeth. and the FIL is being weird, so we barely saw any of his relatives.
today a buyer made an offer for our house. 24% below the house value. we refused them before, hoping for a higher offer. but we need to get the emigration ball rolling, and they're offering cash. fingers crossed, perhaps i'll be setting up camp in Germany in 3 or 4 months…

Not bad. It was the predictable "seat, eat, sleep" days while freezing, but:

- I had plenty of times to practice my ukulele chops. I can now improvise a bit with chords, I memorized a couple of scales, my hand dexterity improved.
- I had to test things for work that I never had time to try before because nobody came with some "do this, deadline is yesterday" request.

Mine was not great overall - day after day of the same kind of gatherings involving baijiu and oily Chinese food. Sit around all day, eat, drink, eat, sit around, eat drink, eat. It got old after a couple days. I drank too much the first night and didn't fully recover until the end of the week. Had a great 2 day trip to Harbin at the end  without the family which was quite nice. The ice sculptures are simply gorgeous.

Boring. But boring in a good way.

Empty streets to scoot about on, silence to hear the birds sing, and no work emails.

But the urban village I live in is starting to wake up now. Old women selling bananas and people who should know better hacking up their lung contents and splatting it on the pavement.

I have enjoyed the silence wink.

I have enjoyed not listening to the "hhuuurgggghhhhh !!!! ....splat."

I worked in the lab over the holiday while most of my staff were back at hometown. Somebody has to look after the monkeys.

You'll enjoy having a kid. You seem like the proud dynasty-builder type. I just hope the kid improves your attitude, not the other way around ;-)

Had the flu and was stuck in bed all week long, the edge of the bed becoming the new boundaries of my world.
