Q: How will China change with exposure to western life.

With more Chinese students going abroad to study and more western influneces seen inside of China how do you think this will change the country. Do students who spend two or three years abroad at university tend to bring their westernised life back home with them or does it simply get left on the plane. If that is the case then do you really think China will grow much in the following years or will it simply reach a level and stay there. We hear a lot about 5000 years of culture but considering what the UK has achieved since the industrial revolution and the US in the last 300 years China seems in many ways to be progressing at a snails pace.

There is some exposure to western culture, but not so much when all the population is taken into account, and it also takes on a Chinese twist like Rap so to say you dont have groups of youths hanging about on street corners. And when Chinese people reach a certain age most turn back into what their parents were like,so i think China will for the most part stay the same,i hope so,well maybe change a few little things

I would guess that in some ways, it will change for the better and in other ways it will change for the worse.

Let's just say the idea of freedom of choice could start to be a serious issue for those in charge.

Definite change! Slow, but sure... I think the real question is - will they repeat the mistakes we made, or will they just jump straight to the solutions? Looking at economics, apparently, it'll be heading down before the ups...

I don't think exposure to western life will change China much more than how it already is.  Maybe a higher demand for creature comforts and luxury items as people have more money.

Now, exposure to western INFORMATION is the issue.

Have you not seen all the Justin Beaver hair kids here? Have you never heard the "I **** you" Mandarin pop song? Have you never had a long lecture about how Friends and the Big Bang Theory are the end of five thousand years history?

Western culture is constantly assimilated by the Chinese, and by the time it passes through all the cultural and linguistic barriers, it's barely recognizable to us, but becomes another good reason for noble patriots to rant at foreigners.
