Q: How will you spend your Christmas in Beijing/China?

How will you spend your Christmas in China/Beijing?

Let’s face it, I’ve been here before over Christmas and besides the malls dressing up it just isn’t quite the same.

When I lived in a smaller town in Hubei all the ‘laowais’ (there were about 12 of us in town) got together at a bar (converted tea house).

Each person bought a homemade dish (something they would eat in their home country) and had to bring a gift (the value of the gift had to be less than 100 RMB).... There was plenty of booze and the boss of the place even managed to find tequila for us...was def one of the best Christmases I’ve ever had.

What are your plans this year?

Any 'Beijingers' keen on doing something similar?

I will do the same thing I have done for the last 5 years.  I will spend Christmas day with my family in Wuhan and Christmas eve on a pub crawl with my friends.

I don't think I can find any Christmas type foods here. However, I plan on inviting a few friends over to my apartment for a meal and a movie.

As for me, since I have not met any foreing friends in Beijing yet, I will probably to to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve as I did in Guilin. Then, Chrismas day, I will probably Chat with my family by webcam for a bit. maybe treat myself to a nice western dinner.  What would be a good italian place here in Beijing?

On Christmas eve, I'll have a quiet dinner at home with hubby and kids. I am going to prepare/cook Christmas dinner and bake a little (I miss fruitcake so yea) After dinner we'll do a little Christmas story reading while sipping hot choco with mallows heart then Christmas movie watching while waiting for media noche smiley

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
