Q: How would a modern-day Marx be treated in contemporary Chinese society?

Have away, please.

I'm sure he'd be in prison.

I agree... his ideas and works contravene the biggest rule in Chinese society-disturbing social harmony. He would have been arrested on corruption charges and chucked into a cell the minute his ideas gained any traction.

Any thing not coming from the state (thus, the CCP, state = CCP here), any grassroots initiative is perceived as a grave threat. A guy explaining how the great industry barons exploit the average worker, late 19th century style ? Harmony disrupter, go play with your jailed friends who ask for rule of law or just accountability. All within the state, nothing outside of the state.

Assumption is the mother of all f-ups ..... Why Assume Karl when there are also Chico, Harpo, and Groucho

Anyway, Agree with DrM that fighting for the little man is a no go in China. Roundhouse kicking the little man in the groin is more how things should be.

I think only Groucho would end up in jail. He had a big mouth. Harpo would be a successful businessman because he's retarded enough to fit in well with those sorts of people in China.
